A Research on the Effects of Music Activities Adopting Visual Supportive Strategies on Cognitive Rehabilitation of Elderly Dementia Patients

Abstract
This study was to examine the effects of musical activities with visual supportive strategies on cognitive rehabilitation for the people with dementia. The participants of this study were 34 elderly people that were diagnosed as dementia. They were registered in day-care center that is located in Seoul. 17 of them were assigned to experimental group and the other 17 people were assigned to control group. The musical activities with visual supportive strategies were carried out both experimental group and control group for 10 sessions. Before and after this program, SNSB(Seoul Neuropsycological Screening Battery) were carried out for the two groups. The results showed that there were statistically significant difference on memory(immediate recall), attention(digit span test backward) and language function(repetition) between experimental and control group. According to this results, it was shown that the musical activities with visual supportive strategies were effective intervention for the cognitive rehabilitation of elderly people with dementia.
